Welcome to 2022! The South Florida electricians at Emerald Isle Electric hope the New Year will be a happy, healthy and energy-efficient one for you and your family.
Making New Year’s resolutions has been a tradition for as long as any of us can remember, but apparently, fewer Americans are making resolutions these days. “As to what resolutions Americans are making,” a CBS News opinion poll found that, “losing weight or improving their health top the list, followed by improving their finances.”
DID YOU MAKE A NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION?
The survey revealed that 29% of Americans planned to make New Year’s resolutions in 2022. That’s a big drop from 2021, when 43% of us were making resolutions. But 29% of all Americans is still a whole lot of people!
If you’re not among that 29%, we would like to point out that the year is still young and it’s not too late to get on board. We even have a suggestion…You could resolve to become more energy efficient this year!
Reducing your energy consumption is a great way to save money on your electric bill and do your part to help the planet. And it’s easy!
3 EASY WAYS TO MAKE YOUR HOME MORE ENERGY EFFICIENT
To help you get started, the sustainability experts at Harvard University offered some tips to help you reduce your energy consumption:
Turn your computer off. “Turn your monitor off at night and ditch the screensaver. Today’s computers can be turned on and off over 40,000 times. Opting to shut down over using a screensaver does not affect your computer’s lifespan. (EnergyStar). So power down!” they say.
Use LED lightbulbs. As the experts at Harvard report, LED bulbs use 75% less electricity than incandescent bulbs. (Energy Star). The also have no mercury, and last about 25 times longer than traditional incandescent bulbs (DoE).”
Unplug electronics not in use. We’re talking about your TV, microwave, printer and even your phone charger. “In the US, the total electricity consumed by idle electronics equals the annual output of 12 power plants (EPA),” Harvard’s sustainability experts say.
